Battle BBQ: Texas v. New York City

It's been more than 2 months since our last round of Battle BBQ, so we're due for another. This week's challenger is none other than New York City. At this point, you're probably recalling those Pace Picante commercials that end with "New York City?!?!" However, believe it or not, the City That Never Sleeps is no stranger to BBQ (though a couple of their popular BBQ restaurants are Texan named; just sayin'). But can the home of the Big Apple BBQ festival and the likes of Rub, Blue Smoke, Brother Jimmy's, Southern Hospitality, Hill Country, Dallas, Daisy May's, Dinosaur, and Virgil's really stack up against the BBQ we dish out down here in the Lone Star State? You decide.

Don't everyone comment at once! Seriously. 17 comments for the "Texas v. Alabama" round but none for NYC? I guess everyone thinks there's really nothing to discuss on this one!

The very fact that NYC has BBQ restaurants called Hill Country and Dallas settles this.

From my experience living up in NYC, I'd say Dinosaur Barbecue and Fette Sau are the closest two barbecue outfits that could even compete against the likes of the better Texas establishments.

But my year in Austin and subsequent barbecue-centric roadtrip through the state have me definitely convinced that Texas is the dominant force in this battle.

Drew were you bored? What kind of question is this?

Dinosaur BBQ is amazing! And do you award points for everything else that they offer? Because between the deviled eggs, wings, fried green tomatoes, & creole potato salad - I’d put it up against any spot in the country. Hear that?!?! I SAID THE COUNTRY!!!

You cant argue a New York "bbq" (yes the quotes are necessary because the term bbq when referring to New York is used loosely) joint can compete with Texas bbq joints by citing everything non bbq on the menu.

New York - concrete jungle where no bbq dreams are made of.
