JMueller BBQ arrives in Austin!

Yesterday at 2PM, JMueller BBQ opened for business in Austin. From what I understand, Man Upper Jacob was first in line, so I'm sure he'll have some pics for me to post. Another friend texted me that, despite the drizzle, it was "slammed" and that everything eaten was "excellent." They sold out in 2 hours. Would love to hear about anyone else's experience. If you have pics, send 'em. I'll stop by soon for a meal and to take some pics of my own. Battle BBQ: Texas v. Oklahoma

What better day for this round of Battle BBQ? The Sooners & Longhorns square off this morning at 11 at the Cotton Bowl. The Red River BBQ Shootout was yesterday. I'm here in Dallas. Just makes sense to pose the question: Better BBQ in Texas or Oklahoma? (See previous battles.)

Dinner at Jack Stack Barbecue (Kansas City, MO)

After we left the American Royal grounds last Friday in Kansas City, Brad & I had dinner downtown at Fiorella's Jack Stack Barbecue. We'd eaten a truckload of ribs earlier at the Royal, so we weren't that hungry. Decided to split a Kansas City Sampler and opted for beef and pork burnt ends, pork ribs, hickory pit beans, & cheesy corn bake. Overall, Brad enjoyed the meal more than I did, but I thought the beef BEs were pretty good & that the pork BEs were very good. Spot-on flavor. Great moisture (particularly the beef). The ribs weren't bad, just unremarkable. I found the beans too sweet & the corn too garlicky - although I'm sure neither of those is a negative for many people (Brad, for example.). We sat at the bar. Service was very good.

A day of BBQ with The Daytripper

This past Saturday, my good buddy Chet "The Daytripper" Garner led a group of hungry folks to Luling & Lockhart for some BBQ. I couldn't attend the "Meat Up," as I was in Kansas City, but I have no doubt it was a great time. BBQ in Central Texas on a Saturday afternoon with The Daytripper? Come on. Southern Pride pork ribs kickstart our American Royal visit!

Just a few minutes after arriving at the American Royal on Friday in Kansas City, Southern Pride graciously provided lunch for Brad and me. A pan full of pork ribs they cooked in one of their smokers. Dad has made great ribs & chicken for as long as I can remember, & he makes a homemade BBQ sauce. Yes, I'm biased, but Dad can bring it!
