QOTD: Which Texas BBQ joint has the best customer service?

For now, table the food. (Get it? TABLE the food!) Forget atmosphere. Based solely on customer service, which Texas BBQ joint is tops? Which Texas BBQ joint treats its patrons the best? And, yes, I will soon ask which joint has the worst service, so stay tuned.

A trip across the pond for Texas BBQ

For his 40th birthday, a reader of mine from the UK trekked it over to Texas for some smoked meats (and Mexican food). He emailed me a few pics and said that he tried to hit up JMueller BBQ and Franklin Barbecue, but they were closed. From top to bottom: Salt Lick (top 2 pics), Kreuz, & Southside Market.

Wednesday's lunch at Johnny's Steaks & Bar-Be-Que (Salado, TX)

En route from Austin to Dallas for the Thanksgiving holiday, we stopped for lunch at Johnny's in Salado. On the table: brisket, pork ribs, turkey, chopped-beef sandwich, mashed potatoes, fried okra, green beans, fries, homemade bread, peach cobbler a la mode, & an oatmeal-raisin cookie. And iced tea, of course. I recommend doing as I did and getting outside slices of the moist brisket. Another rec: Make sandwiches with the sauce, homemade bread, & whatever protein is on the table. If you're not up for a plate, the chopped-beef sandwich & fresh-cut fries should fill you up. Particularly with the onions, it's got a little zing to it!
