Todd covers the Rodeo Austin BBQ Cook-off...again

A couple of weekends ago, Todd hit up the Rodeo Austin BBQ Cook-off, as he did last year. Here's what he had to say about it:

Every year as a part of the Austin Rodeo, hundreds of BBQ enthusiasts descend upon the Travis County Expo Center for two days of BBQ! This was my second year attending the BBQ Cook-off, but the first official visit for Man Up Texas. Luckily for me, I was not alone as I was accompanied by Caroline, Susan & Chelsea (three Man Up Texas rookies).

The weather on Saturday was a bit abysmal, 40 degrees with 30 mph winds, which certainly affected turn-out. We showed up around 1pm for lunch and the place looked like a ghost town. However, we decided to Man Up and take it all in stride. We visited about 5 of the more popular tents (a.k.a. the ones with fire pits and portable heathers) and sampled some pulled pork tacos, brisket, pork ribs, coffee & live music.

There were about 40 teams participating in the competition which included bloody marys, ribs, brisket & sausage spread out throughout the day. Not sure how you get to be a judge, but I'm volunteering Man Up for some judging spots next year.

Thanks to the lovely weather, we didn't stick around for too long, but how great is it that you can visit one place and sample meat from over 40 bbq teams, most of which have other day jobs. Can't wait for next year. Check out some pictures from the event below...
