August 10 Texas Q Tours Trip!!!

With great pleasure, I announce our next public Texas Q Tours trip! The date of the trip is Saturday, August 10, 2013. One of the exciting things about this trip is that each of the stops will be a first for our public tours. So, this trip is 100% new for us! As Pat Green sings, we're headed "Southbound 35" to San Marcos and San Antonio. Three BBQ joints, a craft brewery/distillery, & the home of Texas' top 2 tourist attractions! Here's the itinerary (subject to change):

Hays County Bar-B-Que (San Marcos, TX)
Smoke Shack (San Antonio, TX)
Downtown San Antonio - Free time to check out to stroll around The Alamo, sip cold drinks while you people watch on The River Walk, and/or relax in a rocking chair in the peaceful courtyard of the Menger Hotel.
Tour/tasting at Ranger Creek Brewing & Distilling
Two Bros. BBQ Market

The all-inclusive cost per seat is $125. Seats are sold FC/FS. No refunds, but seats are transferable (If you are unable to attend, you will have a $125 credit for a future trip.). We will depart from Austin around 9:30 AM and return around 8/8:30 PM. To purchase, click the PayPal button below:

Two Bros. BBQ Market highlighted in Taste of the South magazine!

The current edition of Taste of the South magazine has a big feature on San Antonio restaurants, and they highlighted one BBQ joint: Two Bros. BBQ Market. I'm happy about this for a couple of reasons: (1) Two Bros. is an affiliate of The Q Card (the only San Antonio affiliate, in fact - get in the game, San Antone!). Show your card to get a free order of smoked jalapenos, with any order of a "2 Bros" or "4 Bros" pack! Follow them on Twitter. (2) Taste of the South is one of the great mags published by Hoffman Media. The Hoffmans are dear family friends of mine, and they've got a great thing going, even as print media is suffering all over. Check out their lineup of magazines.

Two Bros. BBQ Market (San Antonio)

Before heading to Helotes to see Chris Knight at Floore's Country Store, I met some new friends for dinner at Two Bros. BBQ Market in North-Central San Antonio, a joint that's been open just a year now.

I was bummed that they were out of pork butt - the one thing I wanted above all else - but it was pushing 8 on a Friday night, so I wasn't too surprised. I had chopped beef ($8.50/lb), a chicken thigh ($2), and a cherry-glazed baby back ($14.50/lb). Overall, I found each of them too fatty, but that's a plus in some others' books. The smoked stuffed jalapenos were good, but I liked them better without the bacon. Call me crazy, but if I eat bacon, I want it to be a crispy slice, not a soft, fatty piece wrapped around something else. I enjoyed the tangy cole slaw, and their sauces were outstanding. We had terrific service, and the atmosphere was inviting. They've got a big place out back for kids (and BBQ bloggers) to play, and their pit was cool. I'd like to try it again for lunch sometime. Here are the first pics...
