Kip's Texas BBQ (San Marcos, TX) has closed.

Driving through San Marcos yesterday, I noticed Kip's Texas BBQ is no longer there. A "For Lease" sign was posted. Called their # to find it's no longer in service. I don't have confirmation (and none of the big online review sites indicate it's closed), but my inference is Kip's Texas BBQ is no more. If you have any details, let me know.

July 31, 2010: Kip's Texas BBQ (San Marcos, TX)

Amber and I split a pork-rib basket: 4 ribs, jalapeno cornbread, and slaw. I recommend the ribs. Nice dry rub. Quite meaty, not fatty - just a small layer on top that provided some good moisture. Amber didn't care for the slaw or cornbread, but I liked them. Definitely mix them. Atmosphere is nothing to speak of, since it's just a small place in a strip joint, but the young guy at the counter was very nice and helpful with the menu.

Amber's scores - Ribs: 8; Atmosphere: 6; Overall experience: 7.8

Drew's scores - Ribs: 8.5; Atmosphere: 6.25; Overall experience: 8

Overall Man-Up Score: 7.9

Weekend recap

Yesterday, Amber and I hit up two places we'd never been: Kip's Texas BBQ in San Marcos (Get the pork ribs.) and McBee's Bar-B-Que in New Braunfels (Go sausage. Go turkey, if you want a sweet glaze on the outside.). Todd made the trip to Driftwood for a meal at The Salt Lick. Haven't heard if anyone else in the group had any BBQ. Pics to come.
