Howard's Bar-B-Q (Corpus Christi, TX)

I was passing through Corpus Christi and saw this place, so I turned around and stopped by to take pics. I got there just before they closed at 3 and wasn't hungry anyway, so I didn't eat. Anyone ever eaten at this place? Also, notice that they spell their name 3 different ways among the signage: BBQ, Bar-B-Q, & Bar-B-Cue. Lots of places are inconsistent in their spelling. Speaking of which, how would you spell it?

Gettin' Sauced! updates

Quick updates on next month's 2nd annual Gettin' Sauced! This year's event will be presented by Taste of the South magazine. We're pumped to have such a fantastic food publication presenting our event. Also, we have restructured the admission prices. Admission to the festival is FREE and includes beverages, live music, and everything else the event offers (massages, washers, photo booth, BBQ sauce samples, etc.) EXCEPT sampling of BBQ. To be able to eat the BBQ provided by our growing list of BBQ joints, a BBQ-sampling wristband is required. These wristbands are $8 in advance (via the website) and $10 at the gate. Speaking of website, we will be launching a brand-new one in a matter of days. In the meantime, check out our event page on Facebook!

Old Time Pit Bar-B-Que (San Angelo, TX) has closed.

Wow, I am way late on this, but I only today heard the news (from faithful reader Joe Wagner). Due to a fire that started in the pit (back in early March), Old Time Pit Bar-B-Que in San Angelo has closed. It will not reopen. I am so sorry for their loss and wish Mr. Zesch and all of the Old Time Pit family nothing but the best.

Pecan Lodge Catering and Lockhart Smokehouse join forces for a
Shannon Stone Memorial Fundraiser in Dallas

DALLAS, Friday July 22, 2011 — Diane Mason Fourton of Pecan Lodge Catering and Jill Grobowsky Bergus of Lockhart Smokehouse were so moved by the tragic death of Lt. Shannon Stone at the Texas Rangers Game on July 7, 2011 that they have put aside barbecue competitiveness to help the family of the fallen firefighter with a fundraiser.

The event will feature a barbecue dinner with smoked meats from both Pecan Lodge (D Magazine’s “Best BBQ” in Dallas winner for 2011) and Lockhart Smokehouse (our local Cathedral for carnivores), burnt end pizzas from Il Cane Rosso’s Jay Jerrier along with drinks, music and a live auction. The auction items are being finalized and will be announced soon.

Sponsors include Dallas Farmers Market, Texas BBQ Posse, Full Custom Gospel BBQ, Il Cane Rosso, Edible DFW, Crave DFW, Deep Eddy Vodka and US Foods. Local food and barbecue fans wishing to support the Stone family through this exciting event can purchase tickets, priced at $30 each at http://www.eventbrite.com/event/1940775913, tickets can also be purchased at the door based on availability.
