Edgar Black has passed away.

I learned today that Edgar Black, the patriarch of Black's Barbecue, passed away Friday, at home and surrounded by his family. Black's announced his death via Twitter/Instagram a little while ago. I was fortunate to have met Mr. Black, and I send my sincere condolences to his family. Rest in peace.

Black's Barbecue at Gettin' Sauced!

Today, I begin announcing the BBQ joints that will have a booth at this year's 6th annual Gettin' Sauced! festival. Black's Barbecue (Lockhart, TX) has been with us since the very beginning, and we're thrilled they are joining us yet again this year! We are so honored they will take time out of their crazy-busy schedule to serve BBQ to our festival's attendees. So, Kent, Barrett, and all others at Black's: Thank you!

Up & at 'em! We're starting today's tour with a Franklin Barbecue brisket & some Thirsty Planet Brewing craft beer. Black's-Anjore-Zilker dinner

Earlier this month, I posted about a dinner collaboration among Black's Barbecue, Anjore, & Zilker Brewing. Man Upper Todd Plunk attended and sent me a write-up, with some pics:

"What do you get when you combine Oysters and Texas BBQ? ...A special collaboration with Anjore and Black's BBQ Austin! On January 14, Chef Deepa Shridhar teamed up with Barrett Black to create a one of a kind dish and came up with something truly amazing, an Oysters Rockefeller Kati Roll with Post Oak Smoked Gulf Oysters, Black's Smoked Sausage, and tikka masala BBQ sauce, all topped with house paneer. With just the right amount of spice, the pictures don't do this creation justice. The collaboration didn't stop there however, Zilker Brewing Co. brewed up some special beer for the evening brewed with Smoked Satsuma Syrup! Hopefully this will be the first of many collaborations hosted at Black's BBQ in Austin."

I want to let y'all know of an event that will take place this Thursday (January 14) at Black's BBQ on Guadalupe in Austin. Barrett Black and crew at Black's BBQ are teaming up for a pop-up dinner with Chef Deepa Shridhar of Anjore. So, here's the skinny:

On the menu will be an Oysters Rockefeller Kati Roll with Post Oak Smoked Gulf Oysters, Black's Smoked Sausage, and a tikka masala BBQ sauce topped with house paneer. 

Zilker Brewing Co. has brewed for the event a custom beer made with Smoked Satsuma Syrup.

Time: 6-8:30 PM 

Tickets: $25 ($30 at the door)

We're excited to announce the date & itinerary for our next all-inclusive public tour! Saturday, August 15, we're making stops in Taylor, Lockhart, & Austin. Stop 3 with the Aussies

The 3rd stop on the Aussies' grazing tour of Central Texas BBQ was Black's Barbecue (Lockhart, TX). They toured the kitchen and pit and spent time with pitmaster Kent Black. But first, brisket, sausage, pork ribs, and several sides. I was impressed they were able to continue eating their 3rd meal in such a short amount of time. They came to play!
