Curly's Carolina, TX (Round Rock, TX) is closing.
I'm sorry to report Curly's Carolina, TX is shutting down. Sunday is its last day. I hate to see any BBQ joint close, especially when it's run by such a great person. I wish Jay and all of the Curly's family nothing but success in the future.

Curly's Carolina Texas opening in Round Rock
Curly's Carolina Texas, a blending of Texas & North Carolina BBQ, has been in the works for a while. Curly's is a creation of Jay Yates, the man behind the former Curly's Perfect Pig BBQ trailer (NC style), and John Brotherton, the man behind the former Hall of Flame BBQ trailer (TX style). Doors will open for business at 11AM on Thursday, November 14, at 112 E. Main St. in Round Rock. The website is being built and will be up as soon as possible. In the meantime, get more info via their Twitter page and Facebook page. Welcome, Curly's Carolina Texas!

Friday lunch at Curly's (Round Rock, TX)
Formerly next to the UT campus in Austin, the pink trailer that is Curly's Perfect Pig is now parked in a food-trailer park on 500 N. Mays St. in Round Rock. I stopped by Friday, on my way to Dallas. Filled up on pulled pork, cucumber salad, & pan-fried cornbread. They don't serve fresh-brewed iced tea, but I had one with me, as you can see. Roll Tide.

Curly's Perfect Pig (Austin, TX)
Given that I'm partial to pork, I am delighted that a Carolina-style BBQ joint has opened in town. Yeah, I said it. PORK. You should give it a try, Texans. It's not too bad. Curly's Perfect Pig, a pink trailer by the UT campus (28th & Rio Grande), serves up pork ribs and pulled pork and sides that aren't your average, run-of-the-mill BBQ sides, including pan-fried cornbread (looks like a pancake), cucumber salad (Order it.), & hushpuppies. Owner and pitmaster Jay is a one-man show and is as nice as they come. Here's the first of 2 rounds of pics:
