Levi Smith's Pitmaster Class at Thirsty Planet Brewing!

Today, we announce a special, limited-seating event. Austin pitmaster Levi Smith, of Woodpile BBQ, recently began leading cooking classes, where he teaches students all about smoking a brisket - from selecting the wood to cutting the finished product. Well, we're teaming up with Levi, Thirsty Planet Brewing, & Little Fattys Gordita Cocina to bring you a one-of-a-kind event.

What: Dinner, Drinks, & Levi Smith Pitmaster Class
When: Tuesday, June 11, 2013, 6:00-8:30 PM
Where: Thirsty Planet Brewing, Austin, TX
Cost: $100 per person (Ticket includes dinner from Little Fattys, a Thirsty Planet pint glass, & Levi's 2-hour cooking class. As always at Thirsty Planet, beer samples are free.)

Dinner will be from 6:00-6:30 and will include your choice of 3 dinner options from Little Fattys:
Option 1: Two gorditas
Option 2: One gordita & 2 side items
Option 3: One gordita, 1 side item, & a drink

The class will last from 6:30-8:30. Topics to be covered include meat selection, wood selection, meat trimming, rub application, controlling temperature, time, moisture, etc., and more.

We'll have Thirsty Planet, Little Fattys, & Levi all to ourselves. Hot gorditas, cold Texas craft beer, & a class on how to smoke a brisket. What better way to spend a Tuesday summer evening?!?! This is a limited-seating event, so snag a ticket while you can!

UPDATE: This event has been canceled.

First in line for Woodpile BBQ opening!

Yesterday, I posted a pic of Levi Smith, Woodpile BBQ pitmaster, taken before he opened his trailer window for the first time. Before I post pics of my meal, might as well keep it chronological and post a video from before the trailer opened. It's none other than Man Upper Jacob Reach, who was first in line for the opening. It was Jacob's 4th time to be first in line for the opening of an Austin BBQ joint. So, a little Q&A before lunch...

Levi Smith, pitmaster of Woodpile BBQ (Austin, TX)

Levi Smith is the latest addition to Austin's burgeoning BBQ scene. His Woodpile BBQ trailer is open on Saturdays, and 2 Saturdays ago, I stopped by for his opening (pics to come). While Levi was looking good for the camera, his lovely wife Rachel was in the trailer prepping for customers! Typical man, right, ladies? Looking good in the front of the house, while the lady holds down the fort in the back of the house. Just kidding, I asked Levi to pause for a pic. He was manning the pit and running around getting everything ready, sweating up a storm. Anyway, the money shots:

Woodpile BBQ is coming to Austin!

Austin is about to get yet another BBQ joint. Woodpile BBQ, a new project for Driftwood-native Levi Smith, will serve from a trailer on the Westbound side of Hwy 290, not too far past the Y in Oak Hill. As for what Woodpile BBQ is about: "Woodpile BBQ is owned by Levi and Rachel Smith, parents of two beautiful girls and longtime residents of the Austin, TX area. Levi manages the company and serves as pitmaster. Their vision for Woodpile BBQ goes beyond the initial Saturday lunchtime only service. If enthusiasm is strong, Levi and Rachel plan to open for lunch on weekdays too and make Woodpile BBQ brisket and ribs available in local grocery stores and through local delivery services and national mail order. Levi and Rachel want to make getting exceptional, all natural barbecue convenient without compromising simple and traditional techniques." Check out their menu, & find them on Facebook & Twitter. Good luck, Levi!
