Simple question: What's the best BBQ joint in Houston proper? (For those of you who are like me, please feel free to give multiple answers based on the menu item or some other rating category.)
Why are yall hating on Goode Co? I think its mega tasty - but I'm not at all a Houston BBQ expert. Come to think of it, Goode Co is probably the only Htown BBQ I've had.
Surprised there aren't more votes for Pierson's. It was the darling of the bbq fans until Gatlin's opened. I still like it.
I think you could eat at Virgie's, Pierson's and Gatlin's on the same day and have one opinion. Then do the same thing a week later and rank them totally differently. Sadly, there isn't a single place in Houston that's consistently outstanding. So, uh, if the pitmaster or someone from Franklin wants to break off and hang his own shingle in the Bayou City, that'd be awesome.
I had Luling City Market a couple weeks ago, and it totally sucked. The meat was tough and overcooked. The ribs were chewy. One of the people in our group ordered a brisket sandwich, and it was sliced too thickly to chew comfortably. Anyone who thinks that's the best barbecue in Houston needs to try more places.

Gatlin's BBQ by a large margin.
Finally, a vote! Let's see if others weigh in.
Twitter response: "here's one: Gatlins on 19th, and Brisket House."
Twitter response: "Goode Co. has the best BBQ. Hands down."
Consider this a third vote for the awesomeness that is Gatlin's BBQ.
Twitter response: "I'll put in a vote for Brisket House. Love that place."
Virgies!
I'm partial....and I'm GOODE COMPANY WOOT!!
Ain't nothin' wrong with voting for yourself! Any other H-town BBQ joints think they're tops?
Twitter response: "Put in my vote for Thelma's"
1. Pierson & Co
2. Virgie's
Goode Co. lives on its history only, not even close

Is it Rudy's? A piece from my friend Chris Reid, the Houston Foodie: http://www.29-95.com/restaurants/story/rudys-best-barbecue-joint-houston
Twitter reply: "Rudy's of course...no brainer"
Twitter reply: "Luling City Market. Followed by Goode Co and Pappas. Catch Rudy's in Austin."
Twitter reply: "maybe not the best, but Luling City Market on Richmond is much much better than Goode's."
