Seriously? Salt Lick? They must not have the patience to stand in line...

Ugh to Salt Lick.

10 years ago I'd have agreed that Salt Lick was one of the best. Nowadays? Hardly.

I would have given it to Franklin. It is by far the absolutely best chopped beef sandwich I have ever had. It's so good it doesn't even need BBQ Sauce. My husband and I tried The County Line and I tasted a strong hint of orange zest or something similar. I don't know if it was a fluke or their signature taste but I couldn't get passed it. I love Rudy's also and The Salt Lick has great ribs and potato salad. Haven't tried Lamberts yet, I'll have to check it out.

Salt Lick has always had the whole experience down pat. Food's not anything hugely exciting(especially the brisket), but it's not bad. These lists are often popularity contests - think that's the case here.

Twitter reply: "Why are people so mesmerized by the salt lick?!"

It should have been Franklin...no contest!

Further proof on the whole familiarity trumps quality: Starbucks ties for first place in coffee, ahead of Houndstooth, Medici, and Once Over. Never trust the people. The people suck.

These are the same people that gave Lady Gaga a people choice award and named Avatar one of the best movies.

This is a reader's choice award. Franklin only makes enough bbq to feed people for an hour or so. Salt Lick feeds people whenever they come in...since its a restaurant.

Franklin is good bbq, but only about 200 people in austin will ever get to eat it.

Salt Lick will win as long as they keep feeding the masses. And really, when its right off the heat it stands toe to toe with just about anyone. and the sauce is good.

Fail.
Rudys, the original, lived up to its sign: Texas worst BBQ.

Just ghastly.

We loved Salt Lick, food and service was fantastic. But by far Franklin was the best, followed by Lamberts.
