Is Austin BBQ overhyped?

Everywhere I turn, I see and read more about the Austin BBQ scene. The addition of more and more great joints has played no small part in the nation's interest in the smoked meats being slung in the The Live Music Capital of the World. No doubt, many attending SXSW right now are trying one or more BBQ spots they've read about. But I wonder whether Austin's BBQ scene can live up to the hype - b/c the hype is significant. Does Austin deliver? Is it everything the magazines and blogs and polls say it is? Or is it a letdown? Let us know!

It depends where they go I guess. My first bbq experience was iron works when in got here. Nice atmosphere, but the food wasn't anything special.

Then I hit up j meuller, and found out what Texas bbq was really about. I haven't tried his new location yet, but if people are heading out there, or to la bbq they are in for a way better experience.

Twitter reply: "Only one joint is overhyped. Hint: 3 hour lines."

Facebook reply: "the Texas BBQ Posse doesn't think so as they just said last week that the BBQ capital of Texas has moved from Lockhart to Austin..."
