QOTD: Better BBQ in Austin or Lockhart?
For years, Lockhart has been a destination town for BBQ. Even Austinites regularly shun their hometown's BBQ offerings to drive the 30 miles or so to get to Lockhart, "The Barbecue Capital of Texas." But, with the opening of several new BBQ joints in Austin within the last couple of years (not to mention the fanfare they're arousing), is Austin now a destination town for BBQ on par with, or even exceeding, Lockhart? If you could only dine on smoked meats in Austin or Lockhart, which would you choose?

Twitter reply from the BBQ Snob: "Right now, Austin. Will confirm next month."

Austin easily. Lockhart's grossly overrated.
Sausage is better in Lockhart, ribs are better in Luling, but Franklin's still has the best brisket. However, in the time it takes you to stand in line and get some Franklin's, you can drive from Austin and Lockhart, have several good places to choose from, eat, and start your trip back. I call it a draw until the hour wait at Franklin's goes away.
Twitter reply: "I'm all about tradition when it comes to 'cue, but I have to say Austin for sure."
Twitter reply: "I prefer Austin, TX."
Twitter reply: "Lockhart. Duh."
Twitter reply: "Lockhart. By a mile. Town smells of Cue."
6 months ago I would say different, but right now, Austin. Don O was dead on with the sausage being better in Lockhart, but that is it. With Franklins, JMuellerBBQ, Stiles Switch all being better or just as good' PLUS Lamberts, Cele Store, and Live Oak all being fantastic; it has to be Austin.
Cele Store is in Manor!
Twitter reply: "Your answer is in ELGIN."
Twitter reply: "Luling."
Twitter reply: "Our vote will always be #ATX!"
Twitter reply: "Luling all of the way! City Market!"
Y'all do know that Luling & Lockhart are two diff cities, right?
Twitter reply: "The worst BBQ in Lockhart >>>>>>> the best BBQ in Austin. And it's not close."
OK I take back Cele Store, I simply neglected to remember it was Manor (speaking of which, it was a year ago you had the Man Up event there, need to revisit). But seriously; Manor, Round Rock, Temple... they are all basically Austin. Right?
Twitter reply: "not even a question #Smittys the best!"
Lockhart. John Mueller is all Austin really has.
