"Gettin' Sauced!" is a go!!!

What: Gettin' Sauced!, a Texas BBQ sauce competition, presented by Man Up Texas BBQ

When: 5 PM, Sunday, March 7

Where: Franklin Barbecue (3421 N I-35, Austin)

Admission: Free (donations only)

45 Texas BBQ sauces (24 fresh, 21 bottled)

Live music: three 1-hour acoustic sets. (Here's the lineup.) Feel free to bring folding/lawn chairs.

Lots of great door prizes, to be handed out throughout the evening. (Must be present to win. Pick up your door-prize ticket at the scorecard table.)

Suggested donation of $3 per scorecard, to help defray event expenses. Donations may be made at the gate, at the scorecard table, at the Man Up Texas BBQ table, or to any Man Upper (we'll be wearing Man Up Texas BBQ t-shirts and nametags).

Each scorecard entitles you to taste and rate every sauce. We'll have white bread and crackers at the sauce tables. Franklin Barbecue will have sausage for sale, and several of the restaurants will have meat samples at their table. Bring a pen/pencil. We'll ty to have some, but...bring one.

2 judgings: Judges' panel's results announced at end of event, and partygoers' results announced later on the blog. (Here's the judges' panel.)

1 category for patygoers & 2 categories for judges (fresh and bottled). We have 45 sauces, so we recommend tasting in waves. Try a few, take a break, try a few, listen to some music, try a few, hang out at a restaurant's/vendor's table, etc. If you wanna taste 45 sauces without stopping, more power to you, but we encourage you to treat it like a marathon, not a sprint. As for how many you may taste, you may try 'em all! Try as few or as many as you want, take some notes (to help you remember what you liked and what you didn't), and then choose your top 5 overall (Judges will choose top 5 in each category.). No need to score numerically. Just taste and pick your favorites. You must present your scorecard at each sauce table, in order to taste. Return your scorecard (or piece of paper, if we were outta scorecards) to the scorecard table.

Man Up Texas BBQ's table will have an email-signup list, if you'd like to stay apprised of what we're up to and any future events. We'll also sell MUTB koozies ($2), official Gettin' Sauced! event posters ($5), and official Gettin' Sauced! t-shirts ($10).

Parking: The lot directly across the gate and street parking are available. Carpooling encouraged.

Weather: Pray it doesn't rain.

Only those who have RSVP'd by tomorrow at 2 PM (Central) may get a scorecard and taste sauces from 5-6 PM. After 6 o'clock, anyone may get a scorecard and taste. If we run outta scorecards, don't panic. Just get some paper, write down your picks, and turn it in. RVSP via email, Facebook, or Yelp. (RSVPs not required to attend but are greatly appreciated, as they will help us plan the event.)
